Research proves the importance of reading aloud to children

Study after study has proven that reading out loud to children is beneficial in many ways.

Here are just a few findings about reading aloud and storytelling with babies and children:

promotes brain development and imagination, develops language and emotions, and strengthens relationships
helps your child get to know sounds, words and language, and develop early literacy skills
sparks your child’s imagination and stimulate curiosity
helps develop your child’s brain, ability to focus, concentration, social skills and communication skills
prepares them to understand the written word

Even a peer-reviewed university study, the landmark Becoming a Nation of Readers report from 1985, concluded that “the single most important activity for building knowledge for their eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children.”
